Caricatures representing women and their role in public life are displayed at an exhibition that was opened today, July 16, in the Parliament’s hall. Head of Parliament Igor Corman welcomed the originality of the exhibition and the women’s initiative and promised that the legislature will debate the laws that encourage the women’s participation in decision-making, IPN reports.
“I do not doubt the necessity of the women being present in Parliament, but we should also look from another angle. We must create conditions for the women to be more active, increase the number of nurseries and the salaries,” stated Igor Corman.
Journalist Alina Radu said there are two prospects: the exhibition will become history if the law on the women’s representation in the political life is adopted by the end of this week, and the exhibition will remain a caricature of society.
Corneliu Eftodi, program analyst at UN Women, has told IPN that all the presented caricatures were made several years ago, at the organization’s initiative, in a move to promote gender equality and to present another perspective on the woman’s role in the political life.
The exhibit was mounted with the support of Parliament and civil society.
