Moldova’s exports in January-July totaled US$1,181.5 million, up 63.1% compared with the corresponding period last year, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting the National Bureau of Statistics. The exports of goods to the EU came to US$588.5 million, making up 49.8% of the total exports. The exports to the CIS represented 39.6%, as opposed to 38.7% in the first half of 2010, and added up to US$467.6 million. Exports to Russia, Romania, Italy, Ukraine, Germany, Poland, the UK, Kazakhstan, Turkey, Bulgaria, Hungary, Lithuania, the U.S., Greece, Panama, the Netherlands, France, Czech Republic, Austria, Belarus, Belgium, and Slovakia increased, while to Switzerland, Georgia and Iraq decreased. There were mainly exported machines and equipment for transportation, food products and living animals, oils, fats of animal or vegetal origin, chemical products, mineral fuels, and lubricants. The exports of alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages, raw materials of animal and vegetal origin and of tobacco products diminished. Imports over the first six months totaled US$2,790.2 million, up 40.2% compared with a year before. The imports of machines and equipment for transportation represented 22.4% of the total imports. There were also imported mineral fuels, lubricants, food products, mainly fruit and vegetables, grain, coffee, tea, cacao, condiments, fish, daily products, eggs, meat and meat products. The degree of covering imports with exports in January-July 2011 was 42.3%, as against 36.4% in the corresponding period last year.
