Export of walnuts is in worst situation ever, association head

The business of walnut export is now in the worst situation ever. The exporters are suffocated by the exaggerated fiscal and customs inspections, said the head of the Association of Walnut Exporters of Moldova Dumitru Vicol. He told Info-Prim Neo that the quality of the walnut kernel this year is very good, but the quantity is by about 40% smaller than last year. According to Dumitru Vicol, Moldova exports about 90% of the walnut production. As the weather conditions have been unfavorable, the walnut kernel is more expensive this year. Moldova exports the largest quantity of walnut kernel to the EU, mainly to Germany, Austria, and the UK. It also exports to the Arabian countries. Dumitru Vicol said that the Moldovan walnut kernel is of a high quality, but the buyers pay more attention to the price. As Moldova does not dictate the world prices, the walnut kernel is exported at the price set by the large exporters. The announcements on specialized websites say that the walnut kernel on the home market is now sold for up to 90 lei a kilogram. The walnuts cost between 8 and 15 lei a kilogram. The demand is chiefly for large quantities of walnut and walnut kernel that are to be exported to European countries.
