Export of Romanian gas to Moldova is a victory for people, MEP

The chairman of the European Parliament’s delegation for relations with Moldova Andi Cristea said the export of Romanian gas to Moldova is a victory for the people that will help increase the energy security of the territory located beyond the Prut River, IPN reports, quoting a communique issued by the MEP.

“By diminishing dependence on Russia in a difficult geopolitical context, a momentary geopolitical victory was scored. But the really important victory is related to the continuation of pro-European reforms by the Moldovan pro-European parties, the European course being the only viable road for ensuring stability, prosperity and security,” said the MEP, noting that it is important to finish the construction of the gas pipeline up to Chisinau.

The Social-Democratic MEP underlined that this project represents one more key promise delivered by the Ponta Cabinet seven months after the inauguration of the pipeline, on the occasion of Moldova’s Independence Day. “Romania and the Romanian left show continuity in supporting Moldova,” stated Andi Cristea.

In 2015 Moldova will import over 1 million cubic meters of gas from Romania, at the price of 1,010 Romanian lei (over 4,000 Moldovan lei) per 1,000 cubic meters of gas.
