Export of Moldovan organic products to EU to be facilitated

The certificates issued for Moldovan agrifood products will be recognized on the European market, while the export of organic products to the EU will be facilitated. The Government approved the draft law on organic agrifood products and labeling of ecological products, IPN reports.

The document provides that the inspection bodes of Moldova will be recognized at international level. This way, the local producers will be able to export products to the EU with the mention “organic”. Also, the international certification bodies accredited in the EU will not need to be accredited in Moldova. This will enable the producers to get subsidies even if they certify their products with international authorities. So far, subsidies were provided only to producers that filed applications to the national authorities.

The bill specifies the norms applying to organic products. This way, it is not allowed using genetically modified organisms, fertilizers for soil and other banned products in ecological farming. The products labeled as organic will consist of bio ingredients in proportion of at least 95%. To have such products, farmers will use only seeds obtained through organic methods. Later, the organic products will be stored separately from nonorganic ones.

Currently, 150 companies in Moldova grow organic products.
