Fenazepam drug unavailable from drugstores, Medicines Agency accepts import

The Agency for Medicines and Medical Devices issued an authorization for the import of drugs with the common international name Phenazepamum (Fenazepam) on February 5, 2020, the institution says in a response to IPN following notifications of the absence of this drug in national drugstores.

According to the Agency, the commission for the authorization of imports of drugs, other pharmaceutical products and medical raw material accepted the import 10,000 units of Phenazepamum pills of 1.0 mg N10 and another 10,000 units of Phenazepamum pills of 1.0 mg N10x5.

The import authorization was issued to Esculap Farm SRL, whose previous authorization expired last December.

Representatives of the company said the import procedures are long-lasting and the drug is expected to reach the drugstores in March.

PAS MP Radu Marian informed about the absence of the drug in his speeches in Parliament. He asked the Agency for Medicines and Medical Devices to explain the absence of the drug. The MP told IPN that he hasn’t yet received an answer from the given institution and is collecting facts about the issue and will then decide what actions to take.

Fenazepam was included in the group of tranquilizers and is used to treat brain and mental disorders.
