The lack of continuousness in the reformation process in Moldova diminishes the country’s chances of being praised for its results at the Riga Summit. Such conclusions were formulated in the talk show “Place for dialogue” on the public station Radio Moldova, IPN reports.
Former Moldova’s Ambassador to UN Alexei Tulbure considers the lack of reforms over the last few years is the main cause for the deviation from the European course. “An absurd situation appeared in Moldova, when nothing is solved without corruption, so that we cannot even speak about accession to the EU,” he stated.
The ex-ambassador thinks Moldova hasn’t yet missed the chance of European integration. “If Moldova makes progress, corruption will be eradicated and the justice sector will be reformed. A summit will not be needed for the EU to accept its application for accession. This will be possible only if the political class is replaced. A new force should be brought to power, able to do reforms, stop the exodus and inspire the people with confidence in the future,” he stated.
Nicolae Afanas, department head at the International Relations Institute, believes the Riga Summit will be a rather modest one. “The EU is not ready to offer more opportunities to the Eastern Partnership countries, while Moldova didn’t make progress. The summit will have modest results, but will have positive rhetoric because the EU will say that it supports Moldova’s pro-European course,” he said.
