Experts: Tensions between Ukraine and Russia are extremely dangerous to continental peace

We are nearing unfavorable events that can affect not only Ukraine, but also the Republic of Moldova. The gloomy forecasts were made by ex-Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Vlad Kulminski and former MP Igor Munteanu. The two said the Russian Federation wants the territories annexed by it to be recognized at international level, while an eventual invasion of Ukraine will stall Moldova’s European integration plans, IPN reports.

The mobilization of Russian troops at the border with Ukraine and the renewed threats of Moscow as to an eventual “military and technical response” to the West generate concern in Chisinau as well. Former Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Vlad Kulminski said regional peace is in danger.

“Russia wouldn’t have come with such an ultimatum if it hadn’t been ready to go till the end and this is the most dangerous aspect. The big states do not make threats if they are not ready to implement them. What the Russian Federation wants now is an agreement with the West on the spheres of influence in the former Soviet Union. They try to reach a legal agreement by which this area of influence will be divided and this means maximum tensions. I think difficult events will follow and these will affect not only Ukraine, but also the Republic of Moldova and the whole post-Soviet space,” Vlad Kulminski stated in the talk show “Moldova Live” on the public TV channel M1.

For his part, former PPDA MP Igor Munteanu said all Moldova’s plans could be delayed if an assault on Ukraine is launched. Also, as Moldova has a very modest resilience capacity, it will only watch the eventual violent events in Ukraine.

“The Russian Federation the past week mobilized reservists. In all the offensive plans of the Russian Federation, the reservists are the second wave that assimilates occupied territories. The second thing that was uttered by Sergey Shoigu (Russia’s minster of defense, e.n.) himself is that they found toxic substances thrown by U.S. specialists near Donetsk to kill the population. The search for pretexts generates serious concerns. Now the Russian Federation, through President Putin, tries to obtain from the West recognition, with guarantees, of the territories it annexed. The moment is very dangerous to continental stability.

According to the Ukrainian Minister of Defense A
leksei Reznikov, the Russian Federation has over 94,000 soldiers at the border with Ukraine and it can launch a military attack at the end of January. The minister didn’t rule out the possibility of a “large-scale military conflict”.
