Experts say Veaceslav Iordan’s defeat was caused by his aggressive approach

The electoral message of the communist candidate running for mayor, Veaceslav Iordan, was aggressive and revengeful in the runoff election, a message which generated the disdain of the voters, and in the end, his defeat, several experts consider. Journalist Nicolae Negru told Info-Prim Neo that in the first ballot, Iordan had the most professional campaign compared to candidates. In his words, the communists were European in this respect, using the most sophisticated methods to influence the voters. However, in the runoff election, the journalist says, they used their traditional weapon, which can be called “the election bar”. In this way, the communists tried to scare the voters with the “Romania-phobia” and weapon of unionism, which surprisingly, was eaten away with rust and “killed” their own candidate, Nicolae Negru says. According to the analyst, the vengefulness of the communists, their thirst for power came to light in the second ballot. It could be seen that the Party of Communists used different methods to hold onto power, spending more money and human resources than ever. “Although they tried to be more modern, their reflexes remained aggressive, gross and brutal. Their gregarious spirit proved they are still a danger for democracy and by confronting the nationalities they proved one more time that the communists are the ones to divide the society, to disseminate hatred and discrimination”, Nicolae Negru said. Executive Director of the Independent Press Association Petru Macovei says that PCRM has used obsolete methods in the recent campaign. The voters have expressed their disgust for the communist candidate in the runoff election. The anti-Romanian message was useless, because few believed it. “The appeal “crawl along to the ballot boxes”, addressed as if to disabled person has disgusted me. It is a negativist message, which generated a response”, Petru Macovei says. At the same time, Macovei is worried about the black PR technologies used by several newspapers, technologies considered by the expert on the brink of the Ethics Code and even of the Penal Code. “The scribes of the politicians used intolerable methods and I think such violations of the Ethics Code should be punished”, Macovei says. [Campaign with glove, but without gloves] The election campaign of Iordan promised at the beginning a successful organisation, but it came back to the traditional methods in the second ballot, Ala Rosca, doctor of political sciences considers. According to her, this campaign started quite well, from the point of view of the electoral marketing, especially due to the distinctive element of the red glove. According to Ala Rosca, the persons who had no idea about Iordan said they should vote “the one with the red gloves”. The specialist says that via this massive campaign “with glove, but without gloves”, Iordan managed to gather the votes of communists’ traditional voters, but he could not mobilise those who were irresolute, as he lacked communication abilities, skills to debate, to present his programme and priorities. The cited source says that the advertisement solely relying on the power of the party behind him was fatal for Iordan. According to Ala Rosca, the black PR is not an invention of the Moldovan image-makers, but it is dangerous because voters could lose trust in all the candidates, and in this case, they do not want to vote.
