Experts of International Road Assessment Program to assess Moldova's roads

About 30 censors and four modern video cameras connected to the satellite will examine the technical parameters of 3,000 kilometers of national roads. A minivan outfitted with modern equipment, which was provided by the International Road Assessment Program (IRAP), arrived in Moldova at the request of Premier Vlad Filat and was presented in the Great National Assembly Square on July 2, Info-Prim Neo reports. IRAP director general John Dawson said the assessments will be carried our during 20-25 days, while the data will be processed within 2-3 months. A report will be then prepared on the state of Moldova's roads, which will offer the opportunity of attracting investments. “The foreign investors will have a different opinion when they have truthful information from the IRAP,” John Dawson said. Vlad Filat said 3,000 kilometers of the total 9,000 kilometers of national roads will be assessed during the 25 days. When the results are ready, Moldova will come into possession of a detailed analysis of the condition of the roads that will show what should be done to bring the state of the roads up to the international quality and road safety norms. The minivan assessed roads in 28 countries. Moldova is the 29th country in the general list and the first in Southeastern Europe. The service is provided free of charge. The US$200,000 project is financed by the World Bank and the Millennium Challenge Fund. The minivan came to Moldova from Serbia and will be operated by German and Serbian experts. The equipment costs €750,000.
