Experts from Chisinau and Bucharest to discuss location of U.S. anti-missile shield in Romania

Bilateral Moldova-Romanian consultations on the basing of the U.S. anti-missile shield in Romania between Foreign Ministry department heads will take place in Chisinau this week. The decision to hold such discussions was reached by Moldovan Foreign Minister Iurie Leanca and his Romanian counterpart Teodor Baconski, spokesman for the Foreign Ministry Valeriu Turea announced at a briefing on February 17, Info-Prim Neo reports. Valeriu Turea said the Ministry expressed its stance on the location of the U.S. anti-missile shield in Romania after carrying out a thorough analysis. The Foreign Ministry considers every state has the right to decide how to protect itself and ensure security. As to the recent Transnistrian leader Igor Smirnov's statements that Transnistria is ready to host Russian rockets “Iskander”, Valeriu Turea said “the Government of Moldova did not mandate Igor Nikolaevich to carry out talks on military matters.” “There is a qualitative and constructive dialogue between Moldova and Russia on different issues. This dialogue is expected to improve after Prime Minister Vlad Filat pays a visit to Moscow in the near future,” he said.
