Experts: Case of Adrian Glijin is a sample of terrorism and hostage taking

The Transnistrian regime resorted to hostage taking and wants to obtain the release of a Transnistrian militiaman who is held on the right side of the Nistru in exchange for setting these free. Experts of Promo-Lex Association and ex-deputy prime minister for reintegration Alexandru Flenchea said the case of Adrian Glijin, who was sentenced to jail in the Transnistrian region for ‘treason’, is a sample of terrorism, IPN reports.

Adrian Glijin, who was kidnaped in October 2020 and has been illegally held in the Transnistrian region, was sentenced by the so-called “supreme court” of the Transnistrian region to 13 years and a half in jail. His family was informed that the young man was convicted of ‘treason’.

“He was taken hostage. This is called hostage taking for an exchange. He was arrested as a bargaining chip for the militiaman who was convicted here to 15 years in prison for kidnapping. This is a very sad irony. The case of the militiaman is yet in court. The sentence is not yet final, but the person is held in jail. This is called terrorism and hostage taking,” former deputy prime minister for reintegration Alexandru Flenchea stated in the program “Shadow Cabinet” on JurnalTV channel.

The experts of Promo-LEX said that last October, Adrian Glijin was kidnapped by five persons with balaclavas from a field near Cuzmin village of Camenca district. Since October until December, Glijin could not see his family, while his relatives weren’t allowed access to the case for the reason that this was classified. The experts of Promo-Lex are sure that the separatists will set free Glijin in exchange for the release of the Transnistrian militiaman accused of kidnapping.

“The arrest of the militiaman by the law is a first case of the kind. It is for the first time that the constitutional authorities identified and arrested a person suspected of such a crime and sent the case to court. It is a matter of principle for those from the Transnistrian region to avoid precedents and they therefore kidnapped the four persons. Two were set free, while two are still in detention and, according to our conclusions, they are held hostage for being exchanged for the militiaman from the left side of the Nistru,” said the director of Promo-Lex Ion Manole.

The experts of Promo-Lex called on the Moldovan authorities and also on the international organizations and diplomatic missions to become involved in this case so as to obtain the release of Adrian Glijin and to bring the abuses and illegalities in the Transnistrian region to an end.
