Experts assess situation before signing of Association Agreement with EU

The situation before the signing of the Association Agreement with the EU is tense, while the authorities didn’t make sure that the population is appropriately informed about this event. Such conclusions were formulated in the program “Fabrika” on Publika TV channel, IPN reports.

Ex-presidential adviser Victor Grebenshchikov said the parties of the government coalition made insignificant effort to inform and convince the people of the importance of the Association Agreement. “The opposition MPs did what those from the coalition didn’t manage to do. They convinced a large part of the people that the Association Agreement with the EU is something bad for Moldova and our future is in the Eurasian Union,” he stated.

The former adviser is concerned about the fact that a new power that may enter Parliament after this November’s elections can cease the Association Agreement. “If the Socialists come to power, they will denounce this accord. Those from Brussels will have to work more intensely as the situation is not lucid. Everything will be clear after this autumn’s elections,” said Victor Grebenshchikov.

In the same connection, Corneliu Ciurea, expert of “IDIS Viitorul”, said that some of the MPs of the parliamentary opposition will hamper the ratification of the Association Agreement. “The position of Dodon and his group of MPs is trenchant. The Communists also do not want the accord to be rarified. The positions of MPs Misin and Turcan are not known. This fact diminishes the chances for this accord to be ratified. We know that there are MPs who are not firm party members. We have lately seen that the leaders of some of the coalition parties do not control their MPs,” he stated.

Sergiu Musteata, dean of the Faculty of History of the Teacher Training University “Ion Creanga”, also considers that Euro-skepticism is present among the lawmakers, but he is optimistic about the ratification of the agreement. “There are Euro-skeptics among the MPs, but the lawmakers from outside the coalition may also vote for the ratification as it is about the people of this state,” he said.
