Experts approve of meeting of Andrian Candu and Tiraspol’s representative

The meeting of Andrian Candu and the so-called chairman of the supreme soviet of Transnistria represents an important steps towards settling the Transnistrian dispute. Such conclusions were formulated in the talk show “Fabrika” on Publika TV channel, IPN reports.

Vice director of the Institute of Legal and Political Research of the Academy of Sciences Victor Juc considers that Candu’s visit to Bender was an important step taken towards reunifying the country. “The Government of Moldova tried to unblock the relations with Tiraspol by different methods. There were made concessions and pressure was exerted too. Now they resorted to parliamentary diplomacy,” he stated.

International law expert Vitalie Gamurari also approved of Candu’s visit to the Transnistrian region. “We should not expect too much of this visit, but it is yet a step forward. It is important that the Transnistrian young people were offered the possibility of taking part in the education projects of Chisinau. It is very important for these young people to make a difference between the Russian education and the European one. As Chisinau submits proposals at a time when Tiraspol is in a crisis, this visit can be a good start,” he said.

Alexandru Cauia, dean of the Faculty of Law of the Moldova Free International University, considers the proposal to integrate the Transnistrian young people into Moldova’s education system is welcome. “The settling of the Transnistrian dispute could start from the Ministry of Education. The Transnistrian young people should become part of Moldova’s education system so that they are no longer indoctrinated with a false history,” he stated.

Media analyst Cristian Tabara believes the meeting of Candu with one of the Transnistrian leaders reveals the Transnistrian side’s readiness to have a dialogue. “They perfectly realize that Russia will no longer support them financially and that it’s not worth keeping this separation. They realize that they need to return, but this attempt to return by the Transnistrian separatists is very awkward,” he said.

After almost 13 years of the interruption in the official contacts, Head of Parliament Andrian Candu had a meeting with the chairman of the supreme soviet of Transnistria Mihail Burla in Bender.
