Expert recommends using British model for Transnistrian dispute
The official Chisinau considers any federalization plan as unacceptable and lays emphasis on the respect for Moldova’s sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity, Deputy Prime Minister for reunification matters Victor Osipov said during a meeting with British professor Stefan Wolff, who heads the Center for International Crisis Management and Conflict Resolution, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Stefan Wolff has come to Moldova on the invitation of the OSCE Mission to present the conclusions of a scientific research on federalism.
“We consider we will settle the Transnistrian conflict with patience, by making the right bank of the Nistru more attractive for the residents of the left bank and making progress on the path to European integration, democracy and prosperity,” Osipov said.
Stefan Wolff said he knows the situation in Moldova rather well as he conducted a research on the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia. He considers that the British model can be successful in Moldova as well as it allows preserving the unity of the state and delegating powers to autonomous regions.
The interlocutors agreed that the Transnistrian dispute must be resolved as soon as possible.
