Experiment on minibus route no.110
Throughout this week minibuses on route no.110 in Chisinau will stop to pick up and drop off passengers only in authorized stops, as opposed to at any location where the passengers signal with their hands. This is an experiment initiated by the local authorities in a bid to monitor the flow of passengers and see if it will change with the introduction of such a measure, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“It has been speculated that the disadvantage of public transportation (buses and trolleybuses) is that these vehicles stop only at authorized stops, whereas the minibuses stop at any location where solicited. We've tried with route no.110, requesting the drivers to stop only at stops. This week we will see if anything changes and what people will prefer”, said Chisinau's transportation chief Adrian Boldurescu.
For 9 days, a commission composed of the Traffic Police and Public Transportation Division members monitored the work of minibus drivers and found about 50 violations. Adrian Boldurescu says there have been cases where drivers are fired because of traffic violations and then restored to the job by court. Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca has stated that a commission will be created to withdraw the licenses of the minibus operating companies with multiple violations.
