Exit polls show Iordan, Chirtoaca as frontrunners in Chisinau mayor’s race
The exit poll conducted in the municipality of Chisinau showed that the frontrunner in the Chisinau mayoral race is the candidate of the Party of Communists (PCRM) Veaceslav Iordan, with 28%, followed by the candidate of the Liberal Party (LP) Dorin Chirtoaca, with 26%.
According to the pollsters, a total of 5,000 voters representing the entire spectrum of the population were sampled in the exit polls. One in eight voters was interviewed, and if he/she refused to give an answer, each fourth voter was questioned, after which it was getting back to the each eighth voter principle. In the smaller polling places each sixth voter was questioned.
The exit polls, with a margin of error of 2%, showed the following results: Veaceslav Iordan – 28%, Dorin Chirtoaca – 26%, the candidate of the Moldova Noastra Alliance (AMN) Party Leonid Bujor and the candidate of the Democrat Party Vladimir Filat collected 8% each, the candidate of the Social Democracy Party Dumitru Braghis and the Christian-Democrat Alexandru Corduneanu – 7% each. Ion Mereuta and Eduard Musuc collected 2%, and Svetlana Maslitchi, Zinaida Zorin and Petru Bodarev – 1 percent each. The other candidates gained less the one percent.
In what concerns the composition of the Chisinau Municipal Council, 26% of the questioned voters said they opted for PCRM, 20% chose LP, 10 percent voted for AMN, 7 percent for the Christian-Democrat People’s Party. PDM collected 6 percent, PDS and PSD – 5 percent each. The other parties running for the seats in the Council collected from 0 to 3 percent of the options.
