Exhibition to celebrate 25th anniversary of Moldova leu

A collection of commemorative and jubilee coins and the designs of the first monetary symbols of Moldova, accompanied by plaster layouts used by mints in the production process, will be displayed by the National Bank of Moldova in concert with the National Museum of History and the International Collectors Club of Moldova. The exhibition will be mounted at the National Museum of History and can be visited during November 29 and December 6, IPN reports.

According to the National Bank, the National Museum of History selected two hoards of medieval coins found by archeologists in our geographical area for the exhibition. One of them consists of thalers-lei dating from the 17th century, while the other one of Ottoman coins dating from the 18th century. The International Collectors Club of Moldova will present coins made in Rome and Ancient Greece and medieval coins of the 15th – 17th centuries issued by Moldavia.

The exhibition is staged in connection with the 25th anniversary of the appearance of the Moldovan lei. The series of events that will be held to celebrate the 25th anniversary includes an official ceremony on November 29 that will involve official, ambassadors working in Chisinau, representatives of licensed Moldovan banks and independent experts. The winners of the essay contest “Moldovan leu on the 25th anniversary” that was held during October 1 – November 15 will be announced in the ceremony.

The Moldovan leu was put into circulation on November 29,1993.
