An exhibition of Romanian national costumes was staged in the Parliament Building in Chisinau. There are 16 women’s and men’s national costumes designed by traditional models used in the Romanian area. These were worn daily and also on holidays. The costumes are made from linen, cotton and hemp fabric with woolen and silk thread embroideries, IPN reports.
The exhibits were made by representatives of the community “Șezătoarea Basarabia” (“Bessarabia Sitting”) that by its creations maintains alive the tradition of the national costume in the Republic of Moldova. These contain a costume of folk music singer Ioana Căpraru.
The exhibition was mounted with support from the National Museum of Ethnography and Natural History. The event was trimmed to coincide with the joint meeting by the Speakers of the NB8 Parliaments to Moldova and with the National Costume Day that is celebrated in June. Access to the exhibition is free of charge.
