Exhibition of paintings on religious themes staged at National Museum of Arts

Paintings and graphics centering on religious subjects mainly from the Old Testament and the New Testament have been displayed at the National Museum of Arts of Moldova. The exhibition includes 57 works belonging to the Museum. They were made by authors from European countries and date from the 16th -19th centuries, Info-Prim Neo reports. In a communiqué, the Museum says that the Christian art has always existed in two forms – spiritual and secular. Studying the essence of the religious art in general and the Christian art in particular, the art critics and philosophers determined its particularity – the ability to put divinity above existence and eternity above temporality. Most of the works of Christian art focus on such eternal themes of the mankind as good and evil, loyalty and betrayal, truth and lie. The religious subjects treated by the artists of all the times repeat without using up the richness and diversity of ideas found in different sources, it is said in the communiqué. The exhibit will be open until February 14.
