More than 50 works made by plastic artist Aurel David during three decades will be displayed at an exhibition mounted at the National Museum of Arts of Moldova on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the artist’s birth. The exhibits include works from the Museum’s collection and works from the collection of the artist’s family, which will be displayed for the first time, IPN reports.
Born on June 18, 1935 in Chisinau, Aurel David was a painter and graphic artist. Bardar village of Ialoveni district was one of his permanent sources of inspiration. Aurel David lived in this village together with his grandmother, after both of his parents died. He studied at the Institute of Plastic Arts “V. Surikov” in Moscow and then returned to Chisinau.
In 1955-1980, he asserted himself in different genres of arts, namely painting, easel graphics, sculpture and monumental arts, and experimented new techniques. His works show love for the humans, country and Moldova’s nature.
His works are kept at the National Museum of Arts of Moldova, the National Museum of History of Moldova, the Museum of Romanian Literature “Mihail Kogalniceanu”, the Pushkin Museum-House, the Exhibitions Center “Constantin Brancusi” and at the Tighina Arts Gallery. In 1990, he was conferred the State Award for remarkable accomplishments in the area of plastic arts posthumously.
The exhibition will be opened on July 28, at 3pm, and could be visited by September. Tickets to the museum cost 2 to 10 lei.
