Exhibition dedicated to Romania’s and Moldova’s shared UNESCO intangible heritage

The UNESCO intangible heritage - Romania and Moldova was presented in an exhibition-workshop inaugurated today in the foyer of the King Mihai I hall of the Senate of the Romanian Parliament. The exhibition marks 20 years since the adoption of the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage by UNESCO and the inclusion in the Representative List of the UNESCO World Heritage of the mărțișor (2017) cămașă cu altiță, the traditional blouse with shoulder embroidery (2022).

The event was attended by artisans from Romania, Moldova, North Macedonia and Bulgaria.

“The UNESCO intangible heritage shared with the Republic of Moldova offers the citizens of the two countries the feeling of a common identity, history and values. This cultural heritage is a contemporary and living one, passed from one generation to another, offering a sense of integrity and continuity”, said Janina Sitaru, State Secretary of the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The event was organized by the Romanian Parliament’s standing committee for UNESCO affairs, together with the Moldovan Embassy in Romania, and in partnership with Romania’s National Museum of the Village and Moldova’s National Ethnography Museum.
