Exemption from paying import duties for Moldovans who return home extended

The citizens of the Republic of Moldova who return home to live here can import a unit of transport and personal belongings that are covered by the exemption from paying import duties. The Customs Service said the period of validity of the exemption from import duties was extended until October 1, 2025, IPN reports.

Iurie Stepaniuc, head of the Customs Revenue Division of the Customs Service, said that persons who hold the nationality of the Republic of Moldova, turned 18 and return home from abroad to live here can benefit from the exemption from paying import duties.

The beneficiary must have a permanent or temporary permit of stay outside the Republic of Moldova or any other document issued by the authorities of the foreign state which shows that the person lived in this state, or must have evidence of the payment of taxes in the interests of the given state. “If a vehicle that is subject to exemption is introduced, the person must possess a driver’s licensed in their name valid for the category of which the vehicle forms part,” noted Iurie Stepaniuc.

The legislation provides that the exemption from paying import duties is granted to eligible persons only once and the sale, pledging, donation and leasing out of the imported vehicle are permitted only after three years of the importation day.
