Executive proposes ratifying Convention on Settlement of Investment Disputes
The Government requests the Parliament to ratify the 1965 Washington Convention on the Settlement of Investment Disputes Between States and Nationals of other States that was signed by Moldova on August 12, 1992, Info-Prim Neo reports.
According to Deputy Prime Minister Valeriu Lazar, the Convention provides for entry into the International Center for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID), an institution of the World Bank Group based in Washington. ICSID has an Administrative Council, chaired by the World Bank's President, and a Secretariat. It facilitates the conciliation and arbitration of investment disputes between member countries and individual investors.
Valeriu Lazar said Moldova signed bilateral agreements on the reciprocal protection of investments with many countries, but the ratification of the Convention will contribute to attracting foreign direct investment and will ensure the investor's security on Moldova's territory.
