Executive approves food safety strategy for 2011-2015
The Government endorsed the food safety strategy for 2011-2015. Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Vasile Bumacov said the strategy was worked out in accordance with the main food safety principles of the international and European policy, Info-Prim Neo reports.
According to the official, the major goal is to ensure the protection of public health and consumers’ interests as regards the inoffensiveness of the food, raw material and processes following production.
Currently, five different institutions are involved in the process of formulating and implementing regulations on the safety of food and the control systems used. Separately, there are 169 units empowered to control the food designed for expert. Among the strategy’s objectives are to create a national authority on food safety that would apply the emergency alert system and would ensure a permanent dialogue with the consumers, national agencies regulating the production and sale of food, and with scientific organizations.
The strategy is also aimed at strengthening the procedures for controlling the food safety and ensuring a unitary framework for operating the national inspection and control systems.
