Excavations in Chisinau's historical heart

A number of clay vessels, coins, rings and bones dating from the 16th century were found at the archeological site near Mazarache Church, Info-Prim Neo reports. Early in July, an archeological expedition of the National Museum of Archeology and History of Moldova started excavations in Chisinau' historical heart, at Mazarache Church. “It is for the first time that archeological digs are carried out near the Byk river. The history of Chisinau is described only in historical documents that lack details and do not always allow realizing the scale of those events and how this place developed,” said university teacher Ion Tentiuc, the head of the archeological expedition. “I'm glad that we managed to initiate these excavations and discovered the old cemetery and other objects that will allow us finding out many things about the development of Chisinau.” The excavation works will last by the end of August. After the found artifacts are examined and restored, they will be exhibited at the National Museum of Archeology and History of Moldova.
