Examination of draft law on status of Chisinau in Parliament postponed

Parliament put off until next week the examination of the draft law on the status of Chisinau municipality, which was included in the June 9 agenda. The proposal was submitted by the head of the Parliament’s commission on public administration, regional development and climate change Violeta Ivanov, who argued that there is no relevant report on the issue, IPN reports.

Before the June 9 sitting of Parliament, the leader of the Party of Socialists Igor Dodon gave a press beefing where he criticized the draft law on the status of Chisinau municipality. He said that this bill offers more powers to Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca. The Liberal and Democratic MPs agreed to support each other – the Democrats where to vote the bill on the status of the municipality, while the Liberals – the draft state budget for 2016.

Igor Dodon noted he will insist that this bill should not be voted in Parliament. If it is voted, the Socialists will challenge it by all possible ways.

The Liberal leader Mihai Ghimpu replied that there was no agreement between the Democrats and the Liberals, while the bill on the status of Chisinau municipality was designed to adjust the existing legal norms.

The draft law on the status of Chisinau municipality, which was submitted by the Liberal MPs, caused controversy on the Chisinau Municipals Council and among MPs. This was passed by Parliament in the first reading two months ago.
