Moldova’s second Prime Minister Valeriu Muravschi died. “In these hard moments, we offer our condolences to the grieving family and to the whole society. Today we lost a responsible leader and a real statesman,” says a message signed by Premier Ion Chicu, Parliament Speaker Zinaida Grechanyi and President Igor Dodon.
The message that is quoted by IPN says that by his courageous view and political commitment, Valeriu Muravschi decisively helped the Republic of Moldova to take the first firm steps. Throughout his life, Valeriu Muravschi aimed to be useful to the country, leaving a rich political and managerial experience behind. Owing including to his efforts, Moldova is now a recognized sovereign state.
Valeriu Muravschi held the posts of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance in the Cabinet led by Mircea Druc (1990-1991). In 1991 - 1992, he held Moldova’s premiership. In 1999, Valeriu Muravschi founded the National Christian Democratic Peasants’ Party of Moldova. In 1998, he entered Parliament on the ticket of the Bloc “For a Democratic and Prosperous Moldova”. On July 31, 1999, he was conferred the Labor Glory Order for long and prodigious work in the state bodies.
