Former prime minister Ion Sturza says that on top of all the woes currently troubling Moldova and the region, a severe energy crises might emerge as well, which could leave us without gas and electricity supplies in the dead of winter.
Writing on his Facebook account, Sturza suggested there are a few things the government could do to mitigate the potential consequences.
“Dear friends, I encourage you to join Mr. Leanca on August 30 at the apple pie feast in the Great Assembly Square. Tasty and patriotic too! But let's not forget that... winter is coming!”, jested Sturza.
He suggested the government should better urgently stock up with some 30,000-40,000 tonnes of fuel oil, and connect as many consumers as possible to the yet to be inaugurated Iasi-Ungheni gas line ,“and not just light up the festive flame at the launch ceremony on August 27”.
Sturza also suggested building as many 10kW transmission lines across the Prut “to have at least a few consumption isles”, and offering money to people in rural communities to buy coal and firewood. “It may sound populistic, but freezing is something real! I was shocked to learn that the election campaign of a 'big' Moldovan party costs some 4-5 million euros! Such a pile of money could certainly help us through the winter”, Ion Sturza wrote in conclusion.
