A former female MP is accused of purchasing goods worth about 1 million lei through the agency of relatives. Prosecutors said that she did not include the purchased assets in the property and personal interest statement for 2017-2024, IPN reports.
According to the Anticorruption Prosecutor's Office, in 2016-2017 the suspect purportedly bought goods whose value exceeded her official income through the agency of close relatives, who are accused of complicity. Among them are a car estimated at about 256,000 lei and an apartment located in Chisinau, with a value of approximately 713,000 lei.
The defendants did not admit their guilt and the criminal case was sent to the Chisinau Court.
Illicit enrichment carries a fine of 400,000 to 500,000 lei or 7 to 15 years in jail, with ban on holding public office. False statements are punishable by a fine of 20,000 to 30,000 lei or up to 1 year behind bars.
