The fact that the representatives of Russia and NATO managed to come together at the negotiating table is a big accomplishment, even if the summit didn’t produce results, consider former ministers of defense of Moldova Vitalie Marinuta and Victor Gaiciuc. The issue was developed in the talk show “Fabrika” on Publika TV channel, IPN reports.
Victor Gaiciuc is optimistic about the development of the relations between NATO and the Russian Federation. “The meeting itself is a big plus. Both of the sides experience problems. I’m convinced that these meetings will continue. There are two military forces and each of them has its own interests. But I think that they will reach a compromise and dialogue to stop arming will follow. The sides could achieve a consensus on the conflict in Syria,” he stated.
Vitalie Marinuta also believes that the dialogue between Russia and NATO will continue, but is less optimistic about the end result of this dialogue. “The results of the summit are more than modest. I don’t think we will soon witness a result. Russia will not easily concede in the case of Crimea or the regions in Eastern Ukraine. I think it won’t be quietness, but only periods of calmness. There is no confidence in a NATO-Russia relationship and such confidence will not be built swiftly,” he said.
