Ex-minister Sturza named PPEM acting president

Former Minister of Defense Eugen Sturza became interim president of the European People's Party of Moldova PPEM, after the party's National Political Council took note of the vacancy. Iurie Leancă's four-year term ended on July 26. PPEM announces that it is going through a reorganization process, which started with the Council meeting on August 21.

In a PPEM press release it is stated that it was decided that Eugen Sturza will become the interim president and will lay the groundwork for the PPEM Congress. The Congress will elect the next full-term leadership of the party.

Within the National Political Council it was decided that the PPEM will participate in both the local elections held on October 20 and in the snap parliamentary elections in the four uninominal electoral districts.

"As soon as possible, we will announce the nominated candidates, who are professionals, honest people, people who are ready to work in the interests of the citizens, not populist promise makers, as the ones in the current government" the statement reads.

The party commits itself to establish a political project "which will be based on society's real needs, but will also take into account the important lessons learned from the mistakes of the past". "We believe that, due to the huge disappointment that the ACUM bloc is generating at this moment, the trust of pro-European voters in politicians is at an all time low and a complete reset of the entire political class is required, which can only come if the parties are ready to understand their mistakes and to return to the citizens and to their real needs,” the press release said.
