Ex-mayor of Chisinau criticizes current administration of City Hal

Former mayor of Chisinau municipality Serafim Urechean, who now heads the Audit Office, harshly criticized the current administration of the Chisinau City Hall. He made a number of accusations against it in a program on RTR Moldova, IPN reports.

According to Urechean, current Mayor Doric Chirtoaca is incapable of managing the public funds and committed a number of illegalities, about which the law enforcement bodies were informed. “The Chisinau City Hall, in the person of Mayor Chirtoaca, took out a loan of €20 million from the EBRD and this money is used for the wrong purpose. They yet paid 10 million lei interest and continue to pay interest,” stated the ex-mayor.

Chirtoaca was also accused of traffic of influence and protectionism. The Audit Office established that 67% of the tender contests held by the Chisinau City Hall were won by a company that is owned by a close relative of Chirtoaca. “I informed the law enforcement bodies about this too, so that they take the necessary measures,” said Urechean.

He also said that even if he once renounced the post of mayor in favor of the seat of MP, he may return to this post “I left the City Hall in order to free the country from communism. This was my mission and I accomplished it. Afterward, in 2010, the party I headed was sacrificed for the sake of the national interest, but the fact that the “Moldova Noastra” Alliance lost the parliamentary elections in 2010 is also due to the parties of the current government coalition. I regret that I supported and voted for Dorin Chirtoaca, who is not a professional, and for his uncle Mihai Ghimpu, who thinks only about his pocket. I also do not give up hope of becoming Moldova’s President,” stated Urechean.
