Former Ukrainian judge Mykola Chaus said he is alive, healthy and feels fine and is now safe. In a video published on Telegram, the ex-judge noted he cannot say where he is, but has to inform about his condition as many try to speculate on his alleged kidnapping and the people can guess to whom this is suitable, IPN reports.
“First of all, I want to address my wife. Svetlana, forgive me for what you and our children had to go through, but this was necessary. I promise that everything will be fine soon and those to blame for our sorrows will receive the deserved punishment,” stated Mykola Chaus.
As to the kidnapping, he said he was indeed kidnapped, but not now, but in 2016. Since then, he has been permanently threatened with chastisement and had to stay in Moldova. “The involved people were afraid and are afraid that I will come back and will start to speak. I thank my friends who helped me avoid jail and certain death,” said Mykola Chaus.
The ex-judge noted he intends to soon appear in Ukraine and, together with his lawyers, will answer all the questions, including those that are of interest to Ukrainian society.
A month ago, a commission of inquiry was set up in Parliament to elucidate the circumstances of the alleged kipping of former Ukrainian judge Mykola Chaus. The bill authors, Socialist MPs, said the ex-judge was reportedly kidnaped in central Chisinau on April 3. They made reference to Ukrainian press reports according to which Mykola Chaus is accused by the authorities in Ukraine of taking bribe. In 2017, the law enforcement bodies of Ukraine put him on the wanted list. The Supreme Court of Justice of Moldova rejected his application for asylum.
Recently, the police announced they arrested an accomplice to the kidnapping of the former Ukrainian judge. The person is accused of organizing the activity of the group of persons who kidnapped the ex-judge. Earlier, another person was arrested and charged in the same case.
