Minister of the Interior in the period of the Communist government Gheorghe Papuc, who was convicted in the April 7 case, was put on the national wanted list, based on an order made by the Centru Court on January 29, the head of the Court’s press service Sergiu Tipisca has told IPN.
The official said that the order will be transmitted to the Centru Police Inspectorate of the Chisinau Police Division in several days.
On January 19, the Chisinau Appeals Court sentenced the former minister to four years in jail. The lawyers have time until February 19 to file an appeal to the Supreme Court of Justice. Gheorghe Papuc was found guilty of professional negligence during the April 7, 2009 protests that resulted in the death of Valeriu Boboc. Together with Papuc, former general police commissioner Vladimir Botnari was also convicted, but he was put on probation for a two-year period.
The trial against Botnari and Papuc started in June 2010. At the end of 2011, the Centru Court acquitted the two generals.
