Former judge at the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) Stanislav Pavlovschi advises businessman Ilan Shor, who is suspected of committing frauds at Banca de Economii, to leave the optimism aside and to hire a team of good lawyers. He made such a statement in the program ”Pahomi” on the TV channel Realitatea TV, IPN reports.
According to the former judge, the situation of Shor is rather serious. ”Ilan Shor was officially declared suspect in a very loud case. This status shows that the prosecution body possesses evidence. There is no place for jokes in such cases at a time when there are many innocent persons in the Moldovan prisons, as they say,” he stated.
Within a telephone call, the head of the Investigations Division of the National Anticorruption Center Bogdan Zumbreanu said the essence of the offense of which Shor is accused is that a significant sum of money was illegally transferred from Banca de Economii to Banca Sociala and then taken out of the country.
Zumbreanu also said that the investigation into this case will be a long-lasting one. ”It is an economic crime that forms part of the category of intelligent crimes. The important thing is to find the money, which surely was not put into a sack and hidden somewhere. The money was transferred into accounts of foreign banks and it is practically impossible to return them. We have yet hope and are glad that the persons accused of this offense cooperate with the investigation bodies,” he stated.
Asked to comment on the accusations that the measures taken by the National Anticorruption Center in connection with Banca de Economii have a politcal undertone, Bogdan Zumbreanu said that each second case examined by the Center involves a party. Thus, such accusations appear when particular parties make effort to defend their man.
