Ex-director of “Silva-Centru” gets six years

The former director of the state-owned forestry enterprise “Silva-Centru” was sentenced to six years in jail for misuse of power, IPN reports.

According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, in 2005-2010 the culprit illegally distributed over 137,000 lei from the company’s net profit for paying university tuition for 13 students who were relatives of employees, including for the director’s son.

The 2013, the court acquitted the culprit for the reason that his deed didn’t contain elements of an offense. The prosecutors challenged the sentence, but the Balti Appeals Court rejected the appeal in July 2013. However, the Supreme Court of Justice admitted the appeal and quashed the decision of the Balti Appeals Court, ordering that the case should be tried by another panel of judges.

Recently, the Balti Appeals Court sentenced the man to six years in prison and banned him from holding posts in the forestry sector during a five-year period. The decision can be appealed in accordance with the law.
