Ex-deputy minister of health suspected of misconduct in Radiology Equipment case
Former Deputy Minister of Health Boris Golovin is suspected of misconduct in office in the Radiology Equipment case, which, according to prosecution officers, caused damage to the state assessed at over 35 million lei, Info-Prim Neo reports.
In a communique, the Center for Combating Corruption and Economic Crime says the company S&T Mold, at a tender contest in September 2007, won the right to purchase German digital radiology equipment for over €2 million (35 million lei). The Ministry of Health paid the company 30% of the sum in advance. The rest of the sum was to be transferred after the signing of the delivery documents.
Boris Golovin was to coordinate the examination of the medical devices purchased with public money to see if they meet the conditions of the contract. He is suspected of inappropriately fulfilling his duties as he signed a number of payment orders on the basis of which the Ministry of Heath transferred the entire sum to S&T Mold beforehand. A commission of the Ministry of Health established later that the delivered equipment did not meet the contract conditions.
If Boris Golovin is charged and found guilty, he will be fined 6,000 to 16,000 lei or will be imprisoned for two to six years. In both of the cases, he will be banned from holding a particular post for up to five years.
