Ex-deputy minister of foreign affairs of Ukraine about support for Ukraine and Moldova in energy sector

Even Japan decided to share out its gas reserves so as to support its allies in Europe. What is important is that the general objective is to ensure especially the supply to Ukraine and Moldova, ex-deputy minister of foreign affairs of Ukraine Olena Zerkal wrote, referring to the recent Statement of the U.S.-EU Energy Council.

For Olena Zerkal, it is absolutely evident that Moscow attacks on the energy front, but the EU member states also realize the situation and work to defend and protect their Eastern partners. According to her, the task of the Russia is to artificially maintain the penury and high prices so as to obtain super profit and to launch Nord Stream 2 without any certification or rules.

Bu the pressure exerted by the Kremlin has inverse effects. The EU and the U.S. do not yield to blackmail. On the contrary, the European Commission and the U.S. clearly said that the blackmail will not work. The caravans of ships transporting liquefied petroleum gas to terminals in Europe are the result of diplomatic work. The utilization of gas pipelines in reverse regime is also being considered.

The document examined by the former deputy minister contains a clears political statement that reaffirms Ukraine’s status as a key partner for the EU and the U.S. and underlines the importance of supporting the energy security of the Eastern Partnership countries. Separately, the document contains a clause on assistance for the interconnection of the Moldovan and Ukrainian electricity networks to the European system ENTSO-E.

Moldelectrica at the beginning of February informed that the next step by Ukraine and Moldova in the integration into ENTSO-E is to conduct system tests of the Ukraine/Moldova control block in an isolated mode, which is independently from the energy systems of Russia, Belarus and ENTSO- E.

For her part, the Ukrainian expert said the first testing of the autonomous functioning regime will take place at the end of February.

Moldova’s and Ukraine’s decision to separate themselves from the Russian electrical energy market is dismissed by some of the experts as lacking economic reasons and being dictated by political motives. Izvestia makes reference to Moldovan energy expert Sergey Ungureanu, who said that in the country, not even the authors of the idea can explain how this strategy will be implemented.
