A former deputy head of the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office will appear before judges on three counts – passive corruption, abuse of power and judicial interference. The Prosecutor’s Office for Organized C rime and Special Cases completed the investigation and sent the case to court, IPN reports, quoting the Prosecutor General’s Office.
In 2018, serving as a prosecutor, the accused asked €50,000 from a convicted person for reclassifying the actions and withdrawing the accusations against this in a case that was then pending at the Chisinau City Appeals Court, in which the man was sentenced to 12 years in jail for appropriation attempt and money laundering.
The charged person no longer works in the prosecution service. This does not accept blame and is investigated outside remand.
Update/3:45pm/ In a reaction for Ziarul de Gardă, the ex-deputy head of the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office Adriana Bețișor, whose case was sent to court, said she is innocent and denied all the accusations made against her, noting the actions taken by the authorities represent clear revenge that is supported and encouraged by Prosecutor General Alexandr Stoianoglo himself. She added the criminal case against her was fabricated so as to take revenge on her.
