The former chief prosecutor of Chisinau municipality Ivan Diacov in an interview for UNIMEDIA said why he was fined on election day. He photographed himself in the polling station holding the marked ballot on sight. Subsequently, also on election day, he was visited at home by police officers, IPN reports.
Ivan Diacov said that after he voted, he asked his wife to take a picture of him at the polling station with the ballot in the hand so as to immortalize the moment. The former chief prosecutor admits that he made a mistake, which he assumes.
Ex-prosecutor Ivan Diacov noted that in over an hour after posting that photo on social media, three officers showed up at the gate of his house with an order. The officers informed Diacov that he would have to pay a fine of 600 lei for vote disclosure.
Ivan Diacov said that, although he was puzzled by the fine, he complied. His wife paid the fine, but the photo was not removed from the public space. However, today, November 14, the photo is no longer on that social networking site.
