Ex-chief of Organized Crime Prosecutor’s Office released from arrest

The former head of the Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime and Special Cases Nicolae Chitoroagă was freed from arrest. He was yet banned from leaving Moldova.

Contacted by IPN, Viorel Morari, head of the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office said the prosecutors took all the required urgent actions and a new decision was taken as a result – to ban Nicolae Chitoroagă from leaving the country. The investigation into this case goes on.

Nicolae Chitoroagă was arrested on November 21 over unjust enrichment. The next day he was placed under arrest for 15 days.

Under the Penal Code, unjust enrichment is punished with a fine of 400,000 to 500,000 or with 7 to 15 years in jail.

Last weekend Nicolae Chitoroagă was suspended from the post of prosecutor.
