Ex-Blair aide to offer advice on Transnistrian conflict

Jonathan Powell, Tony Blair's ex-chief of staff and a conflict resolution expert, is willing to help develop recommendations to settle the Transnistrian conflict, the Reintegration Bureau said in a press release. At a meeting with Moldovan Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Eugen Carpov, Jonathan Powell said the Transnistrian conflict is a subject of interest for his area of research. The expert has a solid experience in conflict resolutions, contributing actively to making peace in Northern Ireland and to the German reunification. At the meeting, Eugen Carpov noted that the current 5+2 format is the main negotiation platform whose aim is to find a political solution to the Transnistrian conflict and identify a special legal status for the Transnistrian region within the Republic of Moldova. Jonathan Powell, Downing Street Chief of Staff during 1997-2007, visited Chisinau to launch the Romanian version of his book “The New Machiavelli”.
