Ex-adviser to minister of finance to stand trial

The criminal case concerning the legality of the tender contests for purchasing passport cards with integrated chip, which involves the president of the inter-ministerial working group for holding the given contest, was sent to court following the completion of the investigation, IPN reports, with reference to the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office.

The president of the working group is accused of committing a number of illegalities. Even if none of the participating bidders met the technical requirements, he favored a company that submitted a bid that was by over €1.5 million higher than the bids of other business entities.

By his deeds, in cooperation with other persons, the functionary caused damage of over 27 million lei to the budget of the State Information Resources Center “Registru”, currently the Public Services Agency.

The ex-adviser to the minister of finance faces six to ten years in jail and ban on holding particular posts for a period of 10 to 15 years for abuse of power.
