A former accountant of the Edineţ District Division of the National Food Safety Agency aged 61 got ten years in jail for appropriating sums totaling over 2 million lei that were to be transferred to the state budget, IPN reports.
According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, the woman during four years and a half since 2013 yearly appropriated 300,000 to about 500,000 lei from companies and persons for which the Edineţ District Division provided services. The woman collected charges and issued the required certificates, but didn’t transfer this money to the bank so that they reached the state budget. The irregularities were identified in 2018, when the new superior of the accountant requested the competent authorities to investigate the situation.
The sentence was passed in the absence of the woman. She was listed wanted internationally after she was hospitalized in the country and could not be placed under arrest. The ordinary court accepted the prosecutors’ request and obliged the culprit to pay over 2 million lei damages. Earlier, at the request of prosecutors, the woman’s property was sequestrated and the state could recover over 45,000 lei.
