Activities to commemorate the victims of the Holocaust will be staged inside the Parliament Building on March 16 and 17. The events will be organized with the support of the Jewish Community of the Republic of Moldova and the U.S. Embassy in Chisinau, IPN reports.
At 9:30am on March 16, an exhibition of books and photos about the persecution and extermination of Jews during World War II, including on the current territory of the Republic of Moldova, will be mounted in the Parliament Building. The exhibited books are part of the stock of the National Library of Moldova, while the collection of photos form part of the archives of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, the Holocaust Memorial in Germany, the Jewish Contemporary Documentation Center in Italy, etc. The event will involve MPs, ministers, diplomats, experts and representatives of civil society.
On March 17, the Parliament Building will host a roundtable meeting entitled “Commemoration of the Holocaust in the Republic of Moldova: progress and perspectives”, where representatives of state institutions, development partners and civil society will discuss the progress made by Moldova in realizing the Holocaust, the obstacles in regulation and implementation and the priorities for the next few years.
In July 2016, Parliament approved the declaration on the acceptance of the Final Report of the International Commission on the Holocaust, headed by human rights activist Elie Wiesel, Holocaust survivor. January 27 was declared the national day of remembrance of Holocaust victims.
