Events planned for May 9

Political parties and civil society organizations intend to stage a number of activities in memory of the victims of World War II on May 9, when it is celebrated the victory over fascism, IPN reports.

According to the Government’s press service, flowers will be laid at memorial complexes and at monuments to World War II heroes all over the country. Military ceremonies will be held at the memorial complex “Eternity” in Chisinau and at the memorial complex “Serpeni Bridgehead” in Anenii Noi district. On May 9, those who want will be able to visit free a number of national museums, including the Museum of the Center of Military Culture and History of Chisinau.

The Party of Communists plans to stage an even at the memorial complex “Eternity”. The previous years, members and sympathizers of the party mounted a march, but this year it was decided that the people will come together near the Gaudeamus Movie Theater at 8:30am and will then go to the complex to lay flowers.

The Party of Socialists and a number of NGOs will stage a victory march and a parade of epoch cars. The march will start in the Great National Assembly Square at 10am. The participants will walk to the memorial complex “Eternity” to lay flowers. The march will include the Memory Regiment event, when persons will carry with them photos of relatives killed in battle during World War II.

The Ministry of Defense will mount an exhibition of 36 military vehicles used during the Moldova-U.S. exercise “Dragon Pioneer 2016” in the central square of Chisinau on May 9. The 24 vehicles of the U.S army and the 12 National Army vehicles will be on display between 1pm and 6pm. The visitors of the exhibition will be served with soldier’s porridge.
