Events in Crimea are shameful, ex-Premier

The events that took place in Ukraine, including Crimea, were not accidental. They were very well planned and monitored, former Prime Minister Vlad Filat said in the program “Moldova Live”
on the national TV channel Moldova 1. The Liberal-Democratic leader described those events as shameful, IPN reports.

“In the 21st century, not the most powerful should decide how to behave towards independent and sovereign countries and annex territories of the neighboring states. It was clear defiance. We are witnesses to a very dangerous precedent. I’m sure that the international community will not leave this thing to pass without consequences because it can be perpetuated. Ukraine must regain this territory,” said Vlad Filat.

He also said that the situation in Ukraine has local, regional and global effects. “This conflict concerns the situation in the Transnistrian region too as Russia and Ukraine form part of the 5+2 format talks. I hope that after this show and demonstration of muscles, things will return to normality,” stated the leader of the Liberal Democratic Party.

He reiterated that Moldova must not act according to conjuncture, but must be correct in discussions and in its actions.

Russian President Vladimir Putin on March 18 signed a document stipulating that Ukraine’s Crimean peninsula will be joined to Russia.
