Even if it submitted a notification to the Chisinau City Hall to inform about its intention to stage an event with the participation of 20,000 people in the Great National Assembly Square on September 1, 2018, the Party of Socialists (PSRM) changed its mind. Contacted by IPN, Irina Astahova, the party’s press officer, said the Square was “reserved” by the end of the season.

“We didn’t reserve the Square namely for this day. We actually didn’t plan a protest on this day,” stated Irina Astahova.

The protest against the rise in fuel prices announced by Aurel Bucureanu will also not take place. The activist has told IPN that he submitted notifications to the City Hall by which he informed about the mounting of protests between July 14 and December 30 and can thus stage such events on any day until this yearend.

This way, only two of the four events that were to be held today in the central square of Chisinau will take place. The jurist of the public association “Credință Patriei” (“Faith to the Motherland”) Larisa Tatian said the organization will stage a demonstration to promote the national-patriotic values starting at twelve noon. The Alliance for the Centenary will hold an event in the same place to demand that Parliament should adopt the Statement on the Union with Romania.
