The themes of the protest mounted in Chisinau on September 17 derive from the strategy adopted by the opposition leaders and this strategy is one of confrontation, of conflict. The leaders of the protesters use already outdated themes that were partially dealt with or are invalid, Alexandru Solcan, dean of the Faculty of International Relations, Political and Administrative Sciences of the State University of Moldova, stated in the talk show “Fabrika” on Publika TV channel, IPN reports.
According to him, the context of the current protests is different from the one witnessed two years ago. “The context changed, things changed and we see particular initiatives submitted by the government, leaders of particular parties, but the demands remained unchanged – the theft of the US$ 1 billion, the Kroll report,” stated Alexandu Solcan.
Analyst Anatol Taranu said the leaders of the intransigent opposition of the right reorient themselves with difficulty and find new themes with difficulty and this will cost them a lot. The opposition is looking for themes that would really attract the people to protest. “We need protests to keep the government in check, to make it be attentive and prevent it from relaxing. Those from the government should realize that the protesting potential exists in society because a lot of problems haven’t been yet solved,” stated Anatol Taranu.
On September 17, the Great National Assembly Council mounted a protest where the participants demanded to abrogate the law on the change in the electoral system and restore the proportional representation system, to de-monopolize the media market, to publish the second report compiled by Kroll, hold accountable those to blame for the large-scale theft and restore the embezzled funds, and to impose individual penalties as to the entry into the EU on Vlad Plahotniuc and Igor Dodon as the main persons to blame for the democratic deviations in Moldova. The protest was staged in front of the Parliament Building and then of the building of the National Public Broadcaster “Teleradio-Moldova”.
